Undergraduate Areas of Emphasis

After completing the MCB core courses, students may choose to take advanced courses which provide them with a broad overview of areas within the school or they may choose to specialize by taking courses from one or more Areas of Emphasis. Students opting for the broad overview should take 15 - 16 hours of Advanced Core Courses, including at least one Advanced Core Lab (see below). For those wishing to specialize, advanced courses should be taken based on the categories listed below. Note: Areas of Emphasis will not show up on your UIUC transcript.
